| Luaus hold a special place here in Hawaii, where it was oneof the first places that men and women came together to eat. Named after a dish of tender taro leaves, chicken and coconut milk, the luaus of today are a simple and casually elegant way to bring friends, family and strangers together to celebrate life, love and the sense of togetherness that a luau brings to your soul. For anyone who has never been to a luau, or for those who have forgotten who the true ohana is, a luau on any island will certainly set you straight. |

| Luaus on the island of Oahu are one of the most memorable parts of any trip to these grand pacific islands. A place where live music, fire dances, food and conversation all come together as one. Oh yes, did we mention the food...
Luaus are, for a lack of a better descriptor, a Hawaiian buffet. Pit-roasted Kalua pig, chicken long rice, ahi poke (ahi poke recipe), lau lau's, lomi lomi salmon (lomi lomi salmon recipe), poi and haupia all make a grand and memorable culinary experience. One must remember though to eat light the day before attending a luau, as eating too much beforehand will not only steal away a great dining experience but will also induce the dreaded food coma, for which there is no cure. |
