The Cheapest Destinations in The World

Traveling is expensive.  Some places are much more expensive than others but there are still some pretty cheap destinations out there if you want to go somewhere different and a little more out of the way than some conventional destinations.  In this article, I will list the places that have been voted time and time again as the cheapest destinations on Earth.

Traveling is a luxury that many people cannot afford and the ones who can afford it, break the bank every time they take a vacation.  If you are a traveler or know any travelers, you know that traveling can be costly.  Airfare, hotels, food, activities, rental cars and fees for pretty much everything.  No matter what, any kind of travel is going to cost you a pretty penny but there are many places that are far cheaper than some of those run-of-the-mill destinations that you may be used to.  As long as you don’t mind giving up some luxuries and you don’t mind traveling to more far-flung locations, these destinations are where your hard-earned buck will get you the most:

Asia

Vietnam

China

India

Laos

Cambodia

Thailand

Malaysia

Africa

Morocco

Egypt

Tunisia

Europe

Bulgaria(one of Europe’s cheapest destinations)

Poland

Hungary

Romania

Turkey

Netherlands

CzechRepublic

Croatia

North America

Las Vegas

North Dakota

Eastern Canada

South America

Argentina

Bolivia

Ecuador

Chile

If you are on a budget and are looking for a cheap place to travel, stay away from:

New York

Paris

London

Chicago

Sardinia

Hawaii

Australia

New Zealand

Of course this is meant as just a guideline.  Different things can cause prices to fluctuate at different times.  These generally are the cheapest destinations but you may find deals for other destinations are usually quite pricey if you have the time and patience to search for these deals.  In order to maximize savings even to the cheapest destinations, you would need to also search for the lowest airfares.  The more flexible you are with your schedule and the less fussy you are about where you sit on the plane, the more you will save.  This list may change a bit with the changing world economy, so your best bet is to always do a lot of research before you book and before you go.

Intercultural Tourism Adventure 2009

One of my unforgettable adventure is cruising the Underground River of Puerto Princesa city on March 23, 2008 with my husband when he returned from Hawaii, USA from work after we being married for seven months already to our home here in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines.

He gave me a surprise date and  scheduled this tour for both of us and arranged this trip to a travel agency while I was at work.

On this tour,we joined a group of people that we just met in the tour van.The cost of our adventure was very minimal and all covered for only $ 62 dollars for both of us in a day tour, food included during lunch with eat all you can give away, van transportation, boat transportation, and all underground river travel permits arranged by the travel agency. We went smoothly.

My husband asked permission from the local Fire Marshal to give me a time to spend with him because I work as a Nurse and Fire Officer of the local city fire station and my superior approved because he understand our situation. We are newly married couple that has been away for sometime between our countries Hawaii, USA and Palawan,Philippines and reunited on my Husband’s vacation.

So we left early at 6 a.m. and boarded the van, we were happy. We met tourist group of people in the van composed of other nationals, the road going to Sabang from Puerto Princesa is smooth and some road are still under construction which is still rough. We travelled for an hour going to Sabang. We had a stop over at Bay View for a snack and take a look at precious cultured pearls for sale, jade stones, other cultural handicrafts made by natives of Palawan.Looking at the view, there is the cone island and a peaceful scenery of wide sea water. We roam for awhile at the deck of the cottage and then after having snacks, we moved on.

When we arrived in Sabang our Tour Guide arranged for two boats going to the St. Paul Subterranean Park.Only a maximum of four people  are allowed in one boat. The boat is made up of typical filipino fisherman boat that is made up of bamboo and plywood with a noisy engine. We wore life vest while on the boat and we took pictures of our trip.I used my mobile phone to take pictures and I have to find a laptop with a blue tooth device to transfer the contents.

We are a mixture of variety that day from different cultures and countries, my husband is American, I am Filipino, then a couple  from Canada on their honeymoon trip, the other couple is people from Belgium, and two young adults from Manila,Philippines dating.

The sea water was so clear and clean and the mountains looks so beautiful. The sight of monkeys are common there, including monitor lizards that walk around the St. Paul Subterranian Park.We landed at the park after thirty minutes of the boat trip.

That was a great day. There is nothing to be compared than being with your love one and getting to know people you do not expect you will meet in one tour.We registered our names before going inside the cave and wear life vest and helmet for protection and ride a fiber glass boat.

While in the cave the boatman iserved as our Tour Guide was entertaining and have explained so well the historical background of this amazing creation of God for no man can do this architectural natural design.

My husband laughs during the ride because of the boatman’s sense of humor and funny description of the stalagmites and stalactites, but I said “Honey, the boat is shaking when you laugh so please contain yourself, the boat is so small and the edge of brackish water is so close to the boat and we are all in this boat.”

I cautioned him because inside the dark cave we are cruising is a deep brackish water , so to avoid any mishaps during the tour we should be still. The boatman Tour Guide strived to speak English and he was so good in reasoning. We did not get bored. He used paddle to  reach a 1.5 kilometer distance of  the underground river. The current is stronger in the farthest part and we are not allowed to go beyond this point.

We have one spotlight which is being handled by one of our companion tourist  Canadian couple husband that focuses on the objects wherein the boatman has showed us.We do have unity during the tour inspite of the fact that each person barely has an idea of each other’s background except me and my husband of course.

The cave have stalagmites and stalactites with different rock formation from the dripping of water coming from the ceiling to the walls and the center of the cave carving shapes naturally that created images of flowers, couples, vegetables, face of Christ as name tagged by the local people.

The air is cool because of the combination of water and breeze coming from the mouth of the cave. There are bats sleeping and hanging on top of the ceiling and also there is a sleeping snake in one spot which is undisturbed but we dont ever attempt to touch it of course.

The underground river is voted for one of the seven wonders of nature and we voted for it to become number one.

After that moment, we return to the park going back from inside the cave. Then we were guided to see the monkey trail. The Belgian couple decided to walk on foot back to Sabang. We used the boat back to Sabang with other group tour mates.

We had lunch in one resort with a buffet of food served, eat all you can.We had sea foods, coconut juice, rice, fish and fruits. Also that time we had conversed with our tour acquaintances and learn things about their country and we gain new connections from that moment and exchange addresses to stay in touch after the tour.

My husband had bought me two piece, hahaha for the first time i wore that in open sea.So we had swimming and then he took the opportunity of that moment for intimacy. We both felt refreshed and had a great time in the sea water. He carried me in his arms and we both experience of our love that grows in our togetherness and oneness.

Each person in our group have a story to keep and tell to others how they liked the trip and how they ejoyed such a memorable event.

When we get home, we were dropped by to our doorstep by the tour van, others were brought back to their hotels and others went straight to the airport to catch up a flight.

But this story lasts in our memories, in their hearts and will never be forgotten so I have decided to write about it to pass it on to the next adventurers.

Last Saturday, I received a key ring that has the underground river image on it and the memories flash back and took a picture of it.

Indeed, this destination is known for so many people who has gone there. In case anybody needs our help or guidance we can lead them to the right direction.

Try to visit our website that has a scheduler of travels in that way you would find a cost effective prices of plane tickets, hotel accommodations and car rentals.Travel make us more flexible persons.

Looking For The Perfect Timeshare

Simply put, a timeshare is a vacation property, such as a resort or a rest house, which is owned by a group of unrelated individuals. Most of these properties are in the form of resort condominiums, though others are possible. The options available in this industry are becoming more varied by the day, with the number of timeshares that cater to hotel rooms and cruise cabins going up.

Each owner of the timeshare is allowed to stay in the vacation space once a year. Although in some cases, granted that that a timeshare timetable is agreed upon, owners can choose more than one time or more than one location per annum in order to maximize the holiday entitlement.

Timeshare properties are usually found in warm states like Florida or in cooler places like ski resorts. Recently, indoor and outdoor pools have become a staple feature of most timeshare rentals. Most properties also offer about three fully-furnished bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room.

Timeshare properties are usually situated in popular vacation spots, such as warm areas in Hawaii or Florida or near ski resorts, like Aspen. Outdoor and indoor pools, along with ski slope access, have become one of the biggest draws of the timeshare industry. Other facilities that can come with a property are fully-furnished rooms ranging in size from one to three bedroom models, functional kitchens, living rooms and multiple bathrooms.

Timeshare prices also vary according to the demand for the travel destination. Potential clients are offered a detailed chart which shows the seasons when the properties are pricey.

Similar to other forms of real estate property, timeshares can be passed on to children as a form of inheritance. It can become an investment or a luxury, since it can be used for a nice vacation or can be rented out when it isn’t going to be used, to prevent wasting the timeslots. These properties can also be traded or exchanged with others of its type.

Cash transactions are usually made when purchasing a timeshare. However, if the buyer cannot be able to pay in cash, he/she can make a purchase using a different financing agreement. Either way, owners need to consider other fees such as maintenance and management charges. Owners should make sure that these factors are secured before closing a deal.

Vacationers can choose from a number of affordable alternatives when investing in a timeshare. The best deal one can get is when there is a fixed property for a fixed week each year. In this situation, the ownership of the timeshare goes to the owner who uses it on the fixed week. You can also choose to get ownership of the property only until the duration of the lease period. There are so many options available, you only need to be smart in choosing the right one.

A timeshare directory can prove to be helpful when looking for a comprehensive menu of some of the industry’s leading firms offering holiday residences and vacation rentals.

An Overview of The Disney Vacation Club Timeshare Program.

Disney Vacation Club-
An overview of the DVC ownership system.

The Disney Vacation Club is one of the world’s most respected hospitality brands, and DVC is rightly considered by many to be the leading developer in the timeshare industry. Even in this challenging economy, Disney has continued to look to the future with strong expansion over the past few years. New resorts in Florida, California, and Hawaii have all contributed to the continued growth and prosperity of this incredible vacation ownership system!

Disney Vacation Club ownership is one of the most flexible and easy to use timeshare systems in the world. With more than 350,000 proud DVC owners, this is one of the fastest growing interval ownership programs in the world!  Disney Vacation Club consistently is awarded top honors in satisfaction ratings among guests, and DVC resorts are all rated Gold Crown by the RCI exchange system for the quality and amenities of the properties.

Ownerships are a deeded interest in real estate, and each interest equates to a specific number of Disney Vacation Club points, which are awarded each year on the first day of the anniversary month.  These points are used as your vacation currency to book reservations in any DVC resort. Using points gives an owner the ultimate power of choice.  You will be able to choose the villa type, dates of travel, and the duration of your stay. Each reservation will require a certain number of points as defined by the published point charts.

Disney Vacation Development, Inc.  has established all Disney Vacation Club resorts on either a ground lease, or as a term-for-years. This means that each ownership has a specific expiration date, at which point the usage rights will revert back to Disney.

The resorts are managed solely by Disney Vacation Club Management Corp, and each resort has its own condominium association and its own annual budget. The associations collect the operating expenses, reserves, and ad valorem taxes each year in the form of annual dues per point. Because of this, the annual fee per point will vary from resort to resort- and will also vary from year to year.

Disney’s point charts are published each year. You’ll find the latest points charts in the resort directory section of this brochure. While the points required for a specific reservation can be modified slightly, the overall number of points on each chart must remain constant. In other words, if Disney increases the number of points needed to book a specific reservation- they must also decrease the point requirement for another reservation window at the same resort! This procedure protects DVC owners from any risk that consistent point increases over time could eventually force owners to purchase even more points, just to get the same vacation opportunities. Many other timeshare point systems do not offer this type of protection to their owners!

Disney’s vacation points also provide owners with the opportunity to “bank” and “borrow” points. This flexibility to move points allows owners who only travel to a Disney resort occasionally to pool points for a longer stay, a larger villa type, or perhaps accumulate points to be used for an out of system vacation such as a Disney Cruise Line reservation. Also, owners who don’t expect to use all their points for the current use year have the option of saving those extra points by banking them into the next usage year. Banking request must be made within the first eight months of the owner’s usage year. Owners also have the ability to “borrow” up to 100% of their next usage year allotment. Points can only be moved once, so after they are banked or borrowed, they cannot later be returned to their original use year for a reservation. Finally, an owner must also be current on all dues and mortgage payments to move points from one use year to another.

Points can be used for reservations throughout the Disney Vacation Club portfolio of resorts and destinations. There are currently ten DVC resorts located in Florida, South Carolina, and California- and an eleventh resort is currently under construction in Hawaii. As more destinations are added to the DVC system, your ownership will also entitle you to make reservations at all future resorts!

Each owner shown on the deed will receive a DVC Member Card. Each card has an expiration date, and at the time of reissue, the account must be current and in good financial standing. These Member Cards provide the owner with additional benefits and privileges. These benefits can change from year to year, but traditionally owners receive discounts on annual passes at both the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and the Disneyland Resort in California. Owners also receive special discounts on select dining, attractions, and entertainment venues affiliated with Disney. The member’s quarterly magazine and website provide updates on new benefits and programs as they are added.

Becoming a DVC owner will provide you with years of wonderful vacations and give you access to the all the magic that embodies the Disney experience. You deserve the best, and DVC is the best in the industry!

What is Disney’s Right of First Refusal (ROFR)?

Disney Vacation Development, Inc (DVD) has the first right to purchase any Disney Vacation Club real estate interest that is sold on the secondary market. Basically, what this means is that every resale contract must be submitted to Disney for review prior to closing. If DVC feels the purchase price is below market, they have the right to assume the position of the Buyer in the contract and purchase the ownership from the Seller at the contracted price.

When Disney exercises their right of first refusal, the original Buyer is released from the contract to purchase. The Seller continues on with the closing as before, only now they are deeding the interest back to Disney. The terms of the sale remain the same, except that the closing agent is no longer used- as Disney handles the new deeding process internally.

The purpose of DVC’s Right of First Refusal process is to help control and maintain the value of their timeshare properties.  All aspects of a sale are considered by DVD including, but not limited to: sales price, number of vacation points, dues reimbursements, and closing cost distribution. While the ROFR process can be frustrating to a buyer, the end result is positive for all owners- as the fact the Disney has a long history of aggressively targeting low pricing helps to maintain a more consistent secondary market for owners.

If you are the buyer, and DVC exercises their right of first refusal and replaces you in the transaction, any funds you have deposited into escrow will be promptly refunded in full, or you can choose to simply make another offer on a similar listing.

If you have any other questions about the right of first refusal process, or would like a clarification of any of the issues discussed above- you can contact a licensed DVC specialist with the Progressive Real Estate Agency by phone at (800) 868-8290 or by visiting their website at www.dvclistings.com or at www.progressiveresales.com.

Closing Agents for Your Disney Vacation Club Purchase!

Your choice of a title agent can be one of the most important decisions you make during your transaction.  You should always ensure that the closing company is fully licensed in the state where the property is located, and has a track record of successful closings for your resort.

Your closing agent should also be an independent third party, and not directly affiliated with any other party involved in the transaction. The closing agent’s primary job is to ensure that all the conditions of the contract are completed, and that the title is legally transferred to you at closing.

The closing agents below have been recommended to me repeatedly by past clients, and are among some of the most experienced timeshare closings agents in the industry.

If you are considering buying or selling a DVC ownership, please remember to utilize the services of a respected brokerage who does not require any type of upfront or advance fee! I recommend the Progressive Real Estate Agency as a great choice.  Their DVC specialists have been thoroughly trained by Disney Vacation Club cast members to ensure they are qualified to protect and guide you throughout your entire transaction.  You can reach them at their website www.dvclistings.com.

Top 10 US Beaches

Every year Dr. Beach makes his predictions for the best beach in the US, an honor that beaches across the country hoard over each other for the entire next year.  A label of “Best Beach” drives in tourists and their money, and the title is used to its fullest advertising extent throughout the year.  Each year’s winner is forever retired, unfortunately, so a beach will never win the title of best beach more than once.

What makes a best beach?  Several factors are used to rate beaches on a sliding 1 to 5 scale, factors such as beach width, material, number of sunny days, lifeguards, rip currents, domestic animals, access, water color, beach shape, and so on.  There are 50 factors considered for each beach.  Dr. Beach recently released his Top 10 list for 2010, with Cooper Beach in New York topping the list this year.

It would be easy to just skim down Dr. Beach’s list of winners for 2010.  Instead, here are some of the beaches that have consistently been in the top ten over the last five years.  Some have finally won the big prize and some have not – yet – but all of these beaches are tops.

Beachwalker Park– Kiawah Island, SC

One of Charleston, South Carolina’s gems, Beachwalker Park offers public access to the beach at the southern end of Kiawah Island.  Though the area is known for tennis and golf, the park does offer interpretive tours focusing on the plants and wildlife of the island.  Kiawah Island is actually a natural barrier island just off shore, and Beachwalker Park is 11 miles of unspoiled beach beauty.  A wide boardwalk meanders through the park, beneath oak trees and among the palmettos.  Park amenities include a snack bar, picnic area, showers, restrooms, and beach rentals.  Visitors to the park can ride their bicycles along the hard-packed sand of the beach or rent a canoe or kayak to explore the tidal inlets throughout the island.  Bird lovers should also visit St. Sam’s Inlet and its thousands of birds.

Beachwalker Park first made the list in 2008 in 10th place, followed in 2009 with another 10th place before moving up to 8th place in 2010.

Caladesi Island State Park– Dunedin, FL

Among beaches, Caladesi Island State Park must be one of the most unique.  Part of a fabulous one-two state park beach punch in Dunedin (just west of Tampa on the Gulf of Mexico), Caladesi can only be reached by ferry from its sister state park, Honeymoon Island, or by private boat.  Accessible it is not.  Beautiful and peaceful it is.  Before being ranked the best beach in 2008, Caladesi had been ranked #2 in 2007 and 2006, and #4 in 2005 and 2004.  Obviously this is a great beach!  The park is a rookery and wildlife preserve, but it does have a marina where boaters can dock and spend the night.  There are wide sandy beaches along the west and north points of the park, picnic areas, a small campground, concession stand, and beach rentals.  This is another place where nature lovers will want to rent a kayak and explore the mangrove tunnels around the east side of the park.

Vacationers who might shy away from Florida’s beaches because of the oil spill should know that Caladesi Island and Honeymoon Island are 400 miles south of the oil spill and experts predict that oil may not even touch these beaches because of the loop current around Florida.  The beaches here are still sparkling white.  Click herefor a live webcam.

Cape Hatteras– Outer Banks, NC

Cape Hatteras, a collection of barrier islands, is a national seashore, earning it considerable protection from development and giving the wildlife a safe place to call home.  One of the most recognizable features of Cape Hatteras is its towering lighthouse, the tallest one in the US and one of North Carolina’s most famous landmarks.  The park was the first national seashore in the US.  It encompasses 24,470 acres and several small fishing villages.  Visitors can enjoy outstanding board surfing, superb fishing, beachcombing, historic museums, and of course, the beach.

Cape Hatteras first made Dr. Beach’s list in 2008 in 8th position.  It moved up to 7th in 2009 and 4th in 2010.  Ocracoke Beach, which is also part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, won best beach in 2007, making it the first winner not located in Hawaii or Florida.

Coopers Beach- Southampton, NY

“Best Beach 2010”.  Coopers Beach has been hovering around the top ten for a number of years.  In 2006 and 2008 it came in in 4th place, and in 2007 and 2009 it came in in 3rd place.  Though it is only officially 500 feet of beach, in actuality it stretches seven miles, showing off white sandy beach and incredible views of mansions along the grass-covered dunes of New York’s “Gold Coast”.  The Hamptons are one of three gold coasts in the US, so-called for its famous posh mansions and wealthy residents.  Besides an incredible amount of wealth, Southampton offers a beautiful little village for history buffs.  It was the first settlement in New York, dating back to 1640.  About a mile from the beach rests the cute little church, St. Andrew’s Dune Church, which was once a US Lifesaving Station.  The original wood frame building still has its tiffany windows and the architecture is quite interesting.  Anyone who plans to visit the beach should know that parking is pricey ($ 30 for non-residents) but an affordable alternative is to park in Southampton and take a short bike ride to the beach.

Coopers Beach is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day from sunrise to sunset, and has a lifeguard on duty from 10 AM to 5 PM every day.  The beach gets very crowded so plan to get there early.

Coronado Beach– San Diego, CA

Take a ferry across the bay to San Diego after a day at the beach.  Who doesn’t dream of sunny California vacation?  Coronado Beach offers a little something for everyone.  If falling asleep in the Pacific sun doesn’t suit you try fishing, bodyboarding, surfing, or swimming.  Like so many California beaches, Coronado Beach has it all.  That’s one reason it has been in the top ten beaches list since 2004.  With a steady climb in the rankings, don’t be surprised to see it #1 in the next year or two.

Visitors in the early winter will get a treat – migrating whale sightings.  In the summer, rent a bicycle to explore the trail south of Hotel Del Coronado.  The island on which Coronado is located houses a naval base so there is a strong military presence, but the community also has small town restaurants and boutiques.  The beach offers fire rings, restrooms, free parking in some areas, showers, lifeguards, and even an off-leash area for the dogs.

Fort De Soto Park– St. Petersburg, FL

One of Florida’s premier beaches, Fort De Soto Park marries beautiful beaches with natural treasures and interesting historical features.  The park is a county park located just southwest of St. Petersburg in the Tampa Bay area, and 1,136 acres is the largest park in the county park system.  It is made up of five interconnected islands and includes nature trails for hiking, canoe trails, two beaches including a dog beach, two fishing piers, an 11-dock boat ramp, concession stands, parts of the original fort, restrooms, and 238 camp sites.

Construction of the fort began in 1898, with the fort officially named Fort De Soto in 1900.  The mortar battery and quartermaster storehouse (now a museum) still stand.  The park was on Dr. Beach’s top ten list seven times before hitting #1 in 2005.  The park has also been named America’s Best Beach two years in a row by Trip Advisor – in 2008 and 2009.

Hamoa Beach– Maui, HI

On the list of top beaches, Hamoa Beach is likely the most primitive.  Beachgoers must park on the street above the beach and walk down stairs to it.  The beach itself is small and can be crowded on weekends.  With sea cliffs surrounding the small bay where the beach is located, and with lush plants and trees surrounding it, the beach has an air of privacy and seclusion.  Hamoa amenities include snorkeling, swimming, bodyboarding, surfing, and diving.  There are restrooms and picnic facilities, but no lifeguard.  Though the tiny coconut-laden island of Alau is just offshore, this bay has no fringing reefs so there is often high surf.  Hamoa Beach has been voted one of Hawaii’s favorite beaches and has been on Dr. Beach’s top ten for several years.

Hanalei Bay – Kaua’i, HI

Hanalei Bay is the largest bay on Kaua’i Island and has nearly two miles of beach.  The town of Hanalei is located about midpoint along the bay and the Wai’oli River empties into the bay.  During the summer the waters of the bay are glass-flat, perfect for paddle boarding, swimming, and sailing.  Boats anchor in the bay while sailors and other boaters enjoy the smooth waters.  In the winter the surf kicks up and Hanalei Bay becomes a favorite surfing spot.  There are only two reefs within Hanalei Bay, at either end of the bay so snorkeling is not a popular activity.  There are can strong currents as well, especially in the winter.  However, the bay is surrounded by mountains giving beachgoers beautiful vistas of calm waters in the bay and lush vegetation in the mountains.  The beach is wide and sandy, an excellent place for a family to spend a lazy weekend.

Hanalei Bay topped Dr. Beach’s top ten list in 2009, becoming Hawaii’s 12th #1 beach in 19 years.  Prior to 2009, Hanalei Bay was #2 in 2008 and #4 in 2007.

Main Beach – East Hampton, NY

Located in the small village of East Hampton (which dates back 300 years), this area is steeped in history.  Much of the architecture and historic farmhouses from that era are still present.  In addition the village values its conservation efforts.  The wide sandy beach adjoins a conservation easement and is surrounded by sand dunes and mansions.  Actors and actresses often visit Main Beach as do many of the wealthy residents of nearby villages.  Main Beach, like Coopers Beach, is in The Hamptons, after all.  Parking in East Hampton is not easy (nor cheap) and tickets for parking without a parking permit can be high.  The best way to get around the village and to the beach is on bicycle.

Siesta Beach – Sarasota, FL

Crescent Beach on Siesta Key (also known as Siesta Beach) has some of the finest, whitest sand in the world.  Sand collectors flock to this beach to collect a little of her treasure.  The beach is several hundred yards wide and shaped like a crescent.  Offshore on one end a collection of coral reefs and natural caves makes for excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities.  Back on the beach, visitors can enjoy the calm warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, lay back in the sand while reading a book, have a picnic, or enjoy any number of other activities such as beach volleyball or a game of Frisbee.  Families flock to this beach for the multitude of things to do as well as the quaint village nearby which offers bed and breakfasts, seafood restaurants and boutiques.

Siesta Beach was #2 on Dr. Beach’s list in 2009 and 2010.  In 2008 it was #3, making a huge jump from its #10 spot in 2007.

How to Have a Hawaiin Vacation for Less than $1,000!

The cheapest time to visit Hawaii is during SHOULDER SEASON. High season is too pricey and low season usually means bad weather and closed beaches.

Shoulder season in hawaii is from mid-March-May, September-November. You’ll find low rates on hotels, car rentals, and activities.

Go online to find the cheapest deal. Check these travel quote sites for cheap rates:
Expedia
Orbitz
Travelocity
Priceline
Cheap Tickets
OneTravel has quoted me the lowest airline prices so far.

Try to book your flight at least 6 months in advance for cheaper rates.
Flights booked in May seem to produce the lowest rates. Even lower if you leave during the weekday.

For example: Today is March 5, 2009. OneTravel.com quoted me $ 591(taxes included) for a flight to Hilo, Hi, leaving on May 12, 2009 returning May 19th. This is about as cheap as you can find. If you’ve priced flights to Hawaii you know that they can get well over $ 1000 bucks per person. MAY IS THE SECRET MONTH…AND TRUST ME I’VE DONE MY HOMEWORK!

If you want to see Hawaii in its natural glory opt for camping or staying in a cabin rental. Did you know you can pitch a tent in Hawaii on a beach for free? However, this is not often the safest route. You can camp on a campground with amenities for as little as $ 10.00 dollars per person per night! It’s much safter and you’ll be able to use the facilities. Here’s a list of campgrounds/cabin rentals offering top notch facilities:

Arnott’s Lodge and Hiking Adventures
http://www.arnottslodge.com/
Tenting- $ 10.00 per night per person. Semi-private and private rooms also available for only $ 25-$ 130 per night. 300 yards from the beach. Affordable adventure packages offered daily.

Margo’s Corner Bed and Breakfast
http://www.margoscorner.com/
Tenting-$ 35.00 per night per person. Cottages and suites available. $ 105-$ 145 per night. Complimentary breakfast and supper. Massages, picnic lunches, and canoe adventure.

HALE O AO (HOUSE IN THE CLOUDS)
Tel. (808) 929-8198
Rental Cabins $ 125 for first night, $ 50 for each additional night.

HEDONISIA HAWAII
Tel. (808) 269-2825
Private camping in the jungle. Tenting-$ 15.00 per night. Private room-$ 40.00 pernight. Work Trade available.

KULANA ARTIST SANCTUARY
Tel. (808) 985-9055
Cabins, rooms, and camping from $ 15-$ 30 per night per person. $ 450.00 per month.

OMA’S HAPUU HIDEAWAY
Tel. (808) 985-8959
A-Frame mountain cabin. Full amenities. $ 125 per night-per couple + only $ 15 per additional person.

A great way to save money on food is to split the cost with other campers or cabins dwellers. Come up with a fair meal plan and head to the nearest village grocer. You can pitch this idea by of course mentioning the money that will be saved but also propose rotating cooking nights…you’ll cook the first night. Most everyone is looking for a way to save money and they’ll probably jump right in.

Oahu Vacation Rentals

The best way to take a Hawaiian vacation in Oahu is by starting with a great rental home, condo or bungalow. Oahu vacation rentals are numerous in style and location, and will provide you with additional space and privacy that can come in handy, especially if you are bringing the family. There are six main locations on the island from which to choose: Honolulu, the capital city of Hawaii, Waikiki Beach, where you’ll find all the tourist action, or the South Shore, West Shore, East Shore and the famous North Shore, where some of the best surfing (and shaved ice) in the world can be found. Once you’ve picked a location, check out the offerings on this site for size and amenities. Your Oahu vacation rental home, condo or bungalow can be as simple or as luxurious as you like. Enjoy a Mai Tai on the water’s edge, or view stunning sunsets from your high rise balcony.

All Oahu rental condos and villas will come fully furnished, with fresh linens and complete kitchens. What else do you need? Well, if you need a hot tub and some designer decor, One of the highly reputable rental management companies found on this site can provide it for you. Once you have the perfect digs set up, get out and explore this amazing place.

Start with a tour of the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. While it may be sobering, you will gain a deeper sense of U.S. patriotism and find a reverence for those who perished in WWII. Take it a step further and visit the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park. Explore Hawaiian history and visit the Nuuanu Pali Lookout, where you can see the land where once great battles were fought. King Kamehameha the Great united the islands under his rule. His Laloni Palace is the only royal palace on US soil, and can be visited while on your Oahu luxury vacation.

In Waikiki, not only will you find lots of bikini clad sun seekers, but a host of other natural wonders. Check out the huuumuhumunukunukuapuaa, the state fish, at the Waikiki Aquarium. Try to say that (or spell it) after a world famous Mai Tai. Learn about Duke Kahanamoku, considered the father of modern surfing, in Waikiki. The North Shore offers visitors the Polynesian Cultural Center. It includes seven Pacific Island villages and is the place to go for an authentic luau. While eating poi can be a challenge to both your finger dexterity and your taste buds, kailua pork is utterly delicious.

Another great place to visit in Central Oahu’s the Dole Plantation, where you will find over a mile and a half of pineapple gardens, and enjoy the freshest cut of the fruit and it’s juice. You will get your exercise in with a hike to Kaena Point, with magnificent views of the Waianae Coast to the south, Mokuleia to the north and of course, the Pacific Ocean. No matter where you choose your Oahu vacation rental home, condo or bungalow, the pacific is always there, enticing you with fishing, surfing boating, parasailing, scuba and snorkeling opportunities. On land, there is plenty of golf, horseback riding, tennis and shopping. You might even want to hop on a puddle jumper and visit one of the other exotic and inviting Hawaiian Islands while you are here. Then again, a Mai Tai and a hammock might suffice.

How to Make Your Vacation Green

Making your Hawaiian eco-vacation green is surprisingly easy and affordable. With these simple tips you will reduce your carbon footprint on these beautiful islands.

Instructions

1

Turn off the air conditioning, television and lights when leaving your hotel room.

2

Re-use sheets and towels during your hotel stay. This will save water and reduce energy and chemical usage.

3

Say no to plastic bags when you go shopping. Instead, bring a canvas bag from home or buy one here in Hawaii. Not only will say no to single-use plastic bags, but your canvas bag can double as a beach bag.

4

Bring your own bottle. By simply bringing a re-usable water bottle, you will not only save money by not buying bottled water, but you will ease the impact our oceans and landfills continue to suffer from the onslaught of plastic bottles.

5

Instead of renting a car, take a bus tour of the island. Not only will you emit less carbon dioxide, but you will save on gas, which here in Honolulu is selling for a whopping $ 4.38 a gallon!

6

Last but not least, be sure to visit the new Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, Hawaii’s first Green museum with Fun Hawaii Tours!
