Factors to Help You Choose Hawaii Vacation Rentals Over a Hotel

Dreaming about setting foot in beaches such as Three Tables Beach, Pipeline Beach and Sunset Beach in Oahu? Hawaii has long been a prime choice of destination among many sweethearts and newlyweds. However, this does not mean you cannot take your family with you on a trip to the island. Despite the fact that there are a lot of hotels you can choose from, it is a good idea to look for Hawaii Vacation Rentals. If you are unsure about this though, here are some things you need to consider to help make your decision easier.

Your Length of Stay
If you are planning to go to Hawaii for just a night or two, it is better to choose a hotel than getting a rental home. This is because these homes come with additional expenses such as cleaning deposits.

Number of People in Your Family
Because there are several hotels which have a room capacity, choosing a hotel over Hawaii Vacation Rentals is not a good idea. This is because you will end up paying for more rooms than the price of a rental home. While there is an option for paying for an extra bed, it is still better to get a rental home which can accommodate the number of people in your family. At the same time, this will help strengthen your bond with your kids.

Cooking Your Own Meals
One of the advantages of getting a rental home is that they usually come prepared with fully stocked kitchens. As a result, these homes give you an ability to save money because you prepare your own meals. You can avoid spending too much money dining in the expensive restaurants, especially if you have a large family. While you have the option of eating in places such as Lei Lei’s Restaurant and Kua’Aina Burger, cooking your own meals will allow you to save money!

Another factor you have to consider is the cleanliness of the home. Although you will be charged with a cleaning deposit, it is your job to keep the home clean at all times. The owner of the rental home will only deploy his maintenance crew after you leave. For this, you will have to clean up after each day.

If this is not a problem for you, there are no further reasons why you should not opt for Hawaii Vacation Rentals. With the amount of money you get to save in this accommodation option, you can afford to buy an extra day in the beautiful island!

Hawaii 50

In 1959, President Dwight Eisenhower signed a bill making Hawaii the 50th state in the Union. That same year, James Michener’s historical epic, Hawaii, was published after seven years of research. Extraordinary timing. Fifteen years later, we, the Powers Family, experiencing a relentless season of rain and cold in Seattle, joggled our webbed feet and flew to Hawaii to dry off. Destination was Oahu, one of the eight main islands that make up the state of Hawaii. Oahu, the third largest and most populous of the islands, is home to the capital, Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, and the tourist Mecca, Waikiki Beach.

Oahu is beaming with life, yet a couple blocks off Kamehameha Highway, the main road in Oahu, we experienced the graciousness and charm of island hospitality. In a small sandwich shop a few minutes from Waikiki Beach, we had a plate lunch served with delicious pineapple bread.

(Not surprising since Hawaii is home to the Dole Pineapple Plantations.) The amiable proprietor of the shop kindly gave me the recipe.

Pineapple Bread

Olive oil cooking spray
2 eggs
½ cup extra light olive oil
¾ cup sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla
3 tablespoons orange juice
1 ½ cups pineapple chunks, drained
2 ½ cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ cup walnuts, chopped

Spray bread pan. Beat eggs, oil, sugar, vanilla, and orange juice together. Stir in pineapple chunks. In separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Add dry ingredients to pineapple mixture. Mix well. Fold in walnuts. Pour into sprayed pan.

Bake at 350 degrees. Check at 50 minutes. Test to see if toothpick comes out clean. If not, check every 5 minutes until done. Cool in loaf pan for 15 minutes and then remove to rack to finish cooling. Store in refrigerator.
